a) this question fits way better on the xmltv lists

I'm guessing its tv_grab_se_tvzon that you're talking about.

b) have you considered to invest the work upstream to make the xmltv
    export more reliable instead of working around the issue downstream?
    (there are some issues with unicode/utf-8 being imported that give
     issues on export as far as I understood it)
