MythTV doesn't care where the stream comes from. As long as you have a tuner system with Linux drivers (effectively, that means supported by the Video 4 Linux / Linux TV subsystem) then Myth will use it. So Myth doesn't really care - it (simplifying a bit) just uses a system call to tell the tuner to tune, and waits for a data stream.

You're probably better off popping over tohttp://linuxtv.org as those are the guys that deal with the bit between "Myth TV (or other application) asks for the tuner to do something" and "hardware does something useful".

It doesn't really make any difference whether the tuner is internal or external - the same DRM issues apply.
