[mythtv-users] MythTV UPnP with no router - just a crossover cable (SOLVED)

I had another go and now it works. Maybe not optimum settings, but
security shouldn't be a problem while this is the only connection.

TV: Panasonic series E5B, Network IP/DNS Settings
Acquire IP Address > Auto, shows
    IP Address 169.254.33.71
    Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
    Default Gateway Blank
Acquire DNS Address > Auto, shows
    DNS Address Blank
    Proxy Settings Blank

Laptop: SL6 i686, MythTV 0.26-fixes as of 2013 Feb 28
                    wicd network connection manager
avahi local network service discovery also installed
                    avahi-daemon active and running
(don't know if this is needed)
          Wired network properties:
                    Use Static IPs
                    IP 169.254.0.1
                    Netmask 255.255.255.0
                    Gateway 169.254.0.1
                    Use Static DNS
                    DNS Domain Blank
                    Search Domain 169.254.0.0
                    DNS1 169.254.0.0

          mythtvsetup General, Page 1.
                    Both addresses set to 169.254.0.1

As usual with this MythTV/TV combination under uPnP, recordings from
both DVB-T and DVB-T2 (UK) play well. The progress bar is active but
assumes a 60 Hz frame rate. Duration is taken from the schedule. The
cutlist is not honoured. Skipping forwards and back works but is hard to
control. All recordings are said to be mpeg2-ts. Recordings that have
been transcoded to PS format do not play.

(Project-X -tots option will convert them back, but use of this option
during cutting yields files with AV sync problems, at least if
concatenated.)

Recordings, transcoded or not, that are linked to Videos folders will
play as Videos and skipping works, but the progress bar does not, and
duration is shown as zero.

The list of Recordings can be displayed in full or as selected by
various keys.

For Videos it's just 'All Videos'.

And perhaps something about use with VGA instead. The laptop screen is
1280x800 with an Intel driver, the TV is 1920x1080. Best TV display
seems to be with both screens and frontend geometry set to 1024x768;
that gives a horizontally squashed display on the laptop - and it needs
an audio connection too.
