You mean something like mobilemyth: http://www.mobilemyth.net/ <http://mandrillapp.com/track/click.php?u=15101611&id=f645b6c975fb477ba03080cfd92e4b35&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mobilemyth.net%2F&url_id=6591b7128f9744f681fe9ac2a44785ff5d75fb0b&tags=_all,_sendlists@the-pearsons.co.uk>
I believe their aim is an HTML based frontend, similar to what your talking about.

I want to do this because I want to use Plex Media Server to serve
mythtv recordings to my Samsung TV as it has a native Plex client.

A buddy of mine got a Samsung TV, too. He asked me how he could use it
as MythTV frontend. As the models from 2011 on support HTML 5 and HLS
streaming I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier to create a dedicated
MythTV frontend instead of fiddling about with multiple tools.
http://www.samsungdforum.com/Devtools/Spec <http://mandrillapp.com/track/click.php?u=15101611&id=f645b6c975fb477ba03080cfd92e4b35&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.samsungdforum.com%2FDevtools%2FSpec&url_id=3cf7d1c3cd5f64b4fa95a7127bfb0aa16372c169&tags=_all,_sendlists@the-pearsons.co.uk>

e.g. change MythWeb to use the JWPlayer and HLS streaming, then
add/reactivate a template for devices with limited screen estate
(IIRC there was once an iPad template)

Pro: You get to manage recordings, too

Con: It appears to be slightly more work.

Have you (or someone else on this list) considered that approach?

Regards,
Karl

PS: Creating a HbbTV compatible web frontend sounds good, too. But I'm
not sure that MythTV's streaming code and HbbTV support a common
streaming protocol.

I did take a look at mobilemyth (but not on the TV), it seems quite promising, but the last update I downloaded didn't work and I kind of put it to one side. If I can get it working again, I'll try it on the Samsung TV.

Dave

works fine on a tablet also haven't tried it on the smart tv, i suppose it should work, will depend how clunky the interface is to navigate with a remote, the other option on samsung is plex as they have a native app, however you would need to use mythlink or something to get some real file names or last time I tested plain upnp works however without commskip :(

Cheers,
Anthony

I'll try downloading the latest mobilemyth and give it a go on the Samsung. I think it may be difficult to navigate without a mouse though. Also I think fast forward and reverse may not work too well (I think it only works once the complete program has been transcoded on the backend).

The Plex media server is pretty good as a front end on the Samsung as it does support FF/REW, which the UPNP client doesn't. Unfortunately the Plex Media Server doesn't like sofllinked files, so mythlink isn't too helpful, which is how this thread got started as I was originally looking for help getting mythtvfs working with myth 0.26.

Regards,

Dave
