Your hardware supports 64-bit operation.  Why are you still using a 
32-bit kernel?  Even worse, why are you explicitly running an i586 
kernel when every worthwhile x86 CPU since the Pentium Pro nearly 18 
years ago has supported the i686 instruction set?
