I think X (and your video driver) are doing things right, but your 
monitor is wrong.  However, since you use X, which gives /you/ control, 
you can fix your broken monitor.  :)

Just specify it (and, again, you can specify DisplaySize, which can be 
specified per monitor) and all is well.

Note, also that in any Xinerama-style setup (including TwinView, etc.), 
you /must/ specify the "Display on screen:  Run on the specified screen 
or spanning all screens." and "Monitor aspect ratio: The aspect ratio of 
a Xinerama display cannot be queried from the display, so it must be 
specified." setting values in Appearance settings since we don't get 
useful information from X.
