Hi Rajil,

Maybe this will help:
1.  There are coax to optical converters available.  Check out your 
favorite on-line vendor.
2.  There are analog audio input connectors adjacent to the video inputs 
on the HD-PVR
3.  Yes, in fact, many people find the HD-PVR IR driver a major source 
of problems.  So they don't install it and use an MCE or other.
4.  Don't know gentoo (I'm a Fedora/CentOS user).  Look thru 
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HD-PVR for info on this.
