Found something I hadn't paid much attention to before, preferred inputs ( http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythTV-HOWTO_-_0.26#Preferred_Input).  Using input connections on mythtv-setup, I set those tuners to -2 and rechecked upcoming recordings -- and they were all on the Prime.
