[mythtv-users] (Presumed) Firmware problem with Hauppage HVR-2250

I'm having trouble, we presume with the app-loaded firmware, on a Hauppage
HVR-2250 (dual HD) Tuner card.

 Background:

I've built a Frontend/Backend box with the following:

Intel DH77KC motherboard,

Intel i3-3240 C5U (LGA115)

a pair of KingSton memory sticks: “KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G”

and a refurbished 1TB HD from one of the big names.

Also included would be the (first) tuner card, the Hauppage HVR-2250.

BTW, the Update Manager wants me to update the:

“Header files related to Linux kernel version 3.2.0”,

so I thought that I must be running some version less than 3.2 the version.

BUT, when I typed in the “uname -r” command, the response I got was:

“3.5.0-23-generic”. Huh.

Another command line entry of: “apt-cache policy mythtv” gave me the
results (identical for Installed and Candidate) of:

2:0.25.2+fixes.20120802.46cab93-0ubuntu1

{BTW, Do NOT assume that I know what I'm doing with these command line
entries!!!}

The OS/Software that has been installed include:

MythBuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso,

That didn't get the card working, so I then reinstalled

MythBuntu again, then

Swapped out the HVR-2250 for another one (no effect), then installed

Ubuntu-12.04.3-desktop-amd64, then

Added in another Hauppage card, this one a HVR-1800,

...re-installed MythBuntu and MythBuntu again...

...before I got some more qualified help to figure out at least a part of
the problem.

 ---

Here's the first thing he looked up:

 dmesg | grep -i haup

[ 6.693488] CORE saa7164[0]: subsystem: 0070:8851, board: Hauppauge
WinTV-HVR 2250 [card=7,autodetected]

[ 6.889861] CORE cx23885[0]: subsystem: 0070:7801, board: Hauppauge
WinTV-HVR 1800 [card=2,autodetected]

...and two more lines.

This told him that both cards were “alive” and responding.

Which is not the same thing as saying that MythBuntu is set up to work with
them.

 ---

In subsequent configuration attempts, we found out that we were able to
get the secondary card (the 1800) to configure and work with the software.

The original card however, (the 2250) kept giving us fits.

As a result of other command-line inquiries, my friend came to the
conclusion that the MythBuntu-loaded firmware for the 2250 just was NOT
there, and we needed to go out into the web and find it.

 So, at this web page:

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-2250

we selected this link:

The windows driver and linux firmware extraction scripts are up on
http://www.steventoth.net/linux/hvr22xx

Following the (not to clear) instructions we found there, we created some
firmware for the 2250, installed it, and...

 It's corrupted.

Back to almost square one.

This is where you come in...

...What do I do next to get the 2250 running?

 p.s.:

I only JUST found out about:

 http://www.kernellabs.com/blog/?cat=3

We have NOT tried this web page's resource(s) as of yet.

 p.p.s.:

At first, I could not recall if we ever used the LinuxTV resources.
However, the firmware link at:

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-2250

...goes to the exact same “steventoth” source referenced above!
