I was able to enter a null character using emacs by switching to
hexl-mode and running hexl-insert-decimal-char. However, the resulting
file didn't behave the same way as my log file when I viewed it in the
console. The null character was treated as an EOF.

I created a new ticket. Thanks for taking a look. For the test file, I
don't know how to create a file shorter than a DVD chapter in
Handbrake, so I picked the shortest chapter I could find and set a low
video quality. Even so, the file is about 10 MB, which means it's too
big to attach to the ticket. Should I post it somewhere and send you
the link in an email off list? Or is there a better method?
