I'm not sure how I got a working codec in WMP on my other installation but I could not figure out the source. So, I installed VLC and now I can watch the streams in chrome.

Thanks
M

I'm trying to watch the ASX stream from mythweb (.25), on a new Windows 7 installation.

Clicking the ASX links in chrome causes a small XML file to download, which I then have to open to start viewing. Then WMP opens and reports it cant play the file because of an unknown codec.

I googled this topic and so I installed FFDSHOW...hoping this would install the missing codec, but no luck.

Can someone tell me where to get the missing codecs for Windows?

I've only had success with ASX streaming with VLC player in Windows. With my system, there is password authentication. I have Mythweb set up with basic authentication as written in the Wiki. I understand this is one problem getting Windows Media Player to work with these streams. There may be other problems with Windows Media Player as well.

They work beautifully with VLC player. Give it a shot: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
