Every 10 secs, there is a slight jitter or frame jump. The jitter isn't noticeable unless you are actively looking for it which I have trained myself to do. The playback stream was recorded from OTA recording on a HD homerun device. The mythtv frontend is remote from the background and connected over ethernet 10/100. The fact that it happens every 10 secs is weird. Any tips of where to look and how to debug?

Try running iotop -o and maybe you’ll be able to spot what is causing it. Some time ago I saw regular kswapd ‘blocking’ throughput, although kswapd was the messenger of some problem underneath.
