I don’t have an answer for you, only more warnings.

I recently tried to find a similar motherboard to upgrade my Media server, I discovered that most of the motherboards with lots of sata were using controllers that don’t work reliably under Linux, having seen the nature of the problems discussed on the LKML I wonder if they work reliably under any OS! Research carefully any additional sata controllers on prospective motherboards.

As you already have a good sata board I’d hang on to it, I ended up buying a Supermicro SAS2LP 8 port board and sticking with my old motherboard. I also had the issue that almost all modern chipsets don’t have PCI and I have a lot of PCI DVBS2 cards, the boards that have PCI use bridge chips and they don’t work well in Linux, especially when used with tuners. I ended up with a PCI graphics card so I could use the SAS/SATA board, it only runs a console so that’s ok.

I’d like to run zfs for the non mythtv storage but I can’t install enough memory in this board for the size of array I would have. I’m left waiting for btrfs to become more reliable.

I had the feeling that I should buy a board with PCI while I still could and I may still do that but my message is don’t skimp on the research before buying, I almost bought totally the wrong thing.
