Gerald, did anything else besides mythtv version change like kernel or did
you update the distribution?

I am using an early intel mac mini as the frontend and I am on the edge of
the performance for doing HD playback. My last issue video jitty every 10
secs was solved by switching from kernel 3.11.0-15-generic to
3.13.3-lowlatency. I also disabled audio upconversion, enabled realtime
threads, and checked the audio extra buffering. I also disabled the window
manager and started X using a custom .xsession with just launched the
frontend.

If you suspect performance issues and don't have vdpau/vaapi, you may tweak
the system until you have enough cpu.
