[mythtv-users] MythTV unaware of recordings' actual audio properties

I've recently noticed that mythtv/mythweb aren't displaying the actual
audio properties of recordings. Recordings show up with no audio
properties or as stereo, when "ffmpeg -i" is showing that the audio
track is in 5.1.

For example, a show with no audio properties displayed in mythfrontend
or mythweb:
    Stream #0.0[0x1011]: Video: h264 (Main), yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1
DAR 16:9], 59.96 fps, 59.94 tbr, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc
    Stream #0.1[0x1100]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, s16, 384 kb/s

One that shows stereo:
    Stream #0.0[0x1011]: Video: h264 (Main), yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1
DAR 16:9], 59.96 fps, 59.94 tbr, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc
    Stream #0.1[0x1100]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, s16, 384 kb/s

One that shows 5.1 audio:
    Stream #0.0[0x31]: Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p, 1280x720 [PAR
1:1 DAR 16:9], 38800 kb/s, 59.96 fps, 59.94 tbr, 90k tbn, 119.88 tbc
    Stream #0.1[0x34](eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, s16, 448 kb/s

Based on this, one might conclude that mythtv might not be getting the
audio properties from the recordings themselves, but some other place?
If so, where?
