The format of MythTV recordings are dependent on your content provider or
the tuner that did the recording. Digital tuners such as QAM or CableCard
tuners do not alter the original encoding. So if your provider supplies
MPEG2 streams, your recordings will be MPEG2.  Analog tuners are different.
The HDPVR will produce h.264 recordings.
