One potential solution (and I know Christopher does not hold out much
hope for it working for him) is to try and exchange the STB for a
different model that also has firewire. I had an issue where my Pace
box stopped responding, presumably after a software upgrade, and I
replaced it with a Motorola box. The funny thing is that I was using
the Pace box because the prior Motorola box was no longer working for
me. I did have to modify and recompile the channel changing script as
mentioned earlier in this thread and in a prior thread I linked to,
but now everything works fine.

The only reason I say that is because my local Comcast office told me in the past that they only have the Cisco boxes. I actually called the phone number for my local office this afternoon to ask whether they have any older SA boxes around and the lady told me the call center doesn't know the inventory of the front desk, that there was nobody I could talk to that does know, and that the only way to find out is to physically go to the location, stand in line, and ask.
