I think I got a sequence that seems to work fast. <div><br></div><div>Here it is:<div>0. In the mythtvsetup channel editor, clear your channels this reduces your work in case duplicates are detected.</div><div>1. Scan for your channels. I scanned for qam64,qam256,vsb8. However, most of the channels I care about came in on qam256. I am using comcast cable.</div>
<div>2. Here is where I like the mythweb channel editor to use mass editing. First pass: If you are lucky and got the chanid,callsign filled out, you can jump to the schedules direct xml tables to get the xmlid. You can quickly go quickly through most of the channels to fill out the XMLIDs. Have the mythweb channel editor and the schedules direct open on the same screen makes it easy to tab/switch between the two for fast editing.</div>
<div>3. 2nd pass, some only have the channum filled out. I used the <a href="http://silicondust.com">silicondust.com</a> channel lineup to crossref the channel say qam256 to channel 61-5645, they had a stationid, use that to search your schedule direct lineup to fill in all the other channels.</div>
<div>4. Last pass would be to fill in the channels by viewing them in the mythtvfrontend to see what is actually on. Use 'E' to bring up the minimal chan info editor and tag it so you can remember it next, then when you are done, go back to the mythweb chan editor and fill in the xmlid there, so you can batch edit.</div>

</div></div>Unless you can convince your cable company to publish a proper list of channel mappings (unlikely), you are not missing<br>
anything, that is what you will have to do.<br>

Usually, my cable company only changes a couple of channels at a time, so I only have to rescan the channels that changed. You<br>
can use "HDHomeRun Config" to see if the channels have changed by recording which channels are where and checking from time to<br>
time. You may be able to automate this check as well, though on demand channels will make grep difficult, and you won't know<br>
where channels have moved to, only that they have moved.<br>
<br>
Scte65scan can generate a list of callsigns to frequencyID to cable company channel numbers, but it is only good for limited<br>
basic SD channels, and includes a bunch of encrypted extended basic SD channels. It does save some time trying to figure out<br>
what the channels are.<br>

Also SiliconDust.com has local channel mappings that may help, though they are not always accurate.<br>
