Description

The Hauppauge WinTV-USB2 is an external video capture device that registers as a v4l2 device and works with MythTV, TVtime, and xawtv. (Note that MythTV may try to configure this as an IVTV device. You need to set this as v4l and it will work.)

Connections on the main unit are:

  • S-video input
  • USB cable connector
  • Coaxial input for TV antenna or cable
  • Audio In
  • Audio Out

On my system, the Audio Out is connected to the Line In port on my sound card. I am not using the USB audio.

Known problems and workarounds

If MythTV is not able to start recording and the log shows "v4l2: Unable to set desired format", it may be that VBI is interfering. I was able to solve the problem by setting VBI format to None in the General section of mythtv-setup.
