Talk:Hauppauge HVR-1800
From MythTV
Linux (gutsy gibbon) wont detect the card with HAL, neither will mythtv...
How do you setup a DVB card and how do you update and get latest v4l-dvb drivers?
--
I just added one of those cards to my system last week. What I had to do was install the latest v4l-dvb drivers. I am running fedora 6 with a 2.6.22 kernel. I followed the instructions on the v4l-dvb wiki at: How to install DVB device drivers
The steps boil down to:
- install mercurial (the source control system v4l uses), and the kernel headers
- get a copy of the latest source code using mercurial
- compile
- install the newly compiled drivers
- remove old modules from memory and load new ones (reboot is the easiest way to do that)
- they have a step about firmware, but the HVR-1800 does not require any
For full disclosure I must indicate that I did have some problems at first with the driver not loading. But as I was messing with it I had some unrelated problems (hardware failure) and when I got the system back up (with a new power supply and motherboard) it just worked.

Did what you suggested... Worked great for the HVR-1800, but my two other hauppauge PVR-150's were no longer detected in Myth after the reboot. I tried "sudo make rminstall", but no joy, even after reboot. only difference was that HVR-1800 was not detected anymore. As soon as I reinstall v4l-dvb myth detects it, but not the 150's. Since I couldn't find a way to roll back I had to reinstall the OS..
I'm running on Ubuntu 7.10 gutsy, with a 2.6.22-14-generic kernel on a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
Any Idea when the analogue and digital tunners on HVR-1800 will be both supported on MythTv?

I have 2 PVR-250s in my box and did not have any problems with them after installing the HVR-1800. I am sorry I cannot be of more help. You may want to try the #linuxtv irc channel.
Broadcast Flag
Several of the other HDTV capture cards' pages have a field showing whether or not they will honor the broadcast flag. Does anyone know if the 1800 will or not?
