Troubleshooting:Using
From MythTV
All TV recordings appear in the MythVideo browser!
From the main menu, go down the menu - "utilities/setup"/setup/Media Settings/Videos Settings/General/"Directory that holds videos" - Change this setting to another directory, then enter the video manager ("utilities/setup"/"Video Manager".
At this point, your recordings should go to one directory, and the DVD rips to another.
I try to rip a DVD, but get the "No Jobs. Checking and/or waiting for DVD" message.
This one is trickier. Make sure your MythDVD has transcode support, recompile it if necessary. I used these instructions [[1]]. Make sure the user running MythTV (for my Debian system, the mythtv user) has rights to the DVD device, target directory and to the temp directory. In the DVD config, use the DVD device, not a mount point. (For me, it was /dev/hdc) Run mtd as root, use the -n option, this will show some good debugging output. Put a DVD in the drive, and select rip. If all goes well, you'll see a button at the bottom of the screen telling you to press 0 (zero). Press it! For your first rip, try a lower quality than ISO, this is chosen in the track selection options you sould be seeing now.
After selecting a title to rip, I press '0' to start the transcode job, but nothing happens. mtd.log only says 'a client socket has been opened', 'a client socket has been closed'.
This may be caused by the operating system automatically playing the DVD on insert. For instance, in Ubuntu 7.04, go to System -> Preferences -> Removable Drives and Media, choose the Multimedia tab and unselect "Play Video DVD Discs when inserted".
Why aren't my new recordings showing up in Watch Recordings?
You probably have a filter set on Watch Recordings from a previous session. Hit MENU in the Watch Recordings screen and check to make sure that the View Filter and Group View are both set to All Programs.
Fast Forward/Rewind work only erratically when watching recordings.
In my experience this is due to a corruption of the
seekrecorded table. See Database errors.
Cannot edit a recording. In my experience this is due to a corruption of the seekrecorded table. See Database errors.
Why is my OSD in greyscale? XvMC has been selected as the Preferred MPEG2 Decoder (Setup > TV Settings > Playback) and decoder limitations require it. With some video cards it may be possible to work around this, see Grayscale OSD.
