From MythTV
I've used mythtv since mid 2005. During that time my configuration has changed several times, mainly during the quest for a silent system. The most recent change involved an upgrade to make HDTV watchable without xvmc. I recently switched my OS over to ubuntu Hardy, using kernel 2.6.24. The newer v4l drivers in cvs support most of my tuners, and now I am able to get my PVR-150 working at the same time as my digital usb tuners. This is good since I just got cable TV back. My PVR 1250 works now too, so I record QAM digital channels from the cable line as well. I've also replaced my old remote with a Sony learning remote, which I taught keys from my IR keyboard. I decided to stop using LIRC at that point in order to have one less receiver up on the TV stand. Since July of 2007, Myth has been a set-it-and-forget-it box for me, requiring no maintenance at all, adding a new tuner notwithstanding.

None of the above tuners were plug and play (the ATI card was closest) at the time I installed them, so I have experience with the general drudgery of getting them to work. However, currently the HVR-1250 digital part and the PVR-x50's are plug and play with the latest linux kernel. The usb tuners still need a recent v4l dvb snapshot compiled for support. But once that's done, they work well. If you need advice on them feel free to ask.
