Framebuffer cards are capture devices that provide raw video frames to the host system.  Due to the complexity of having to set up separate audio and video capture, as well as the CPU requirements of real time capture and encoding, these types of cards are not recommended for use with MythTV.  [[Analog_Hardware_Encoder_Cards|Encoder cards]] are instead the preferred means of analog capture.
