traffic between the ONC/modem and router(actiontec) appears to be 802.1q tagged vlan.

vlan 34 is the IPTV network

the router will bridge vlan 34 into the lan, along with multicast packets

All tv channels appear to be RTP streams over multicast, like rtp://239.42.151.7:8208/

There doesn't appear to be any need for mac cloning or dhcp trickery like Sasktel IPTV, just joining the multicast group sends a flood of packets to any normal linux pc.

i suspect that some(all?) channels are encrypted

2013-08-07 19:09:15.243973 N DTVSM(): PMT says program 8208 is encrypted

tstools reveals that the rtp stream i was testing on is indeed encrypted

 Packet 624 is PAT
 Program list:
     Program 8208 -> PID 0023 (35)
 Packet 625 is PMT with PID 0023 (35)

   Program 8208, version 31, PCR PID 0022 (34)
   Program streams:
     PID 0022 (  34) -> Stream type 1b ( 27) H.264/14496-10 video (MPEG-4/AVC)
         ES info (6 bytes): 09 04 4a e2 ff e0
         Conditional access: id 4ae2 (19170) PID 1fe0 (8160)
     PID 0020 (  32) -> Stream type 81 (129) User private
         ES info (6 bytes): 09 04 4a e2 ff e0
         Conditional access: id 4ae2 (19170) PID 1fe0 (8160)
     PID 0021 (  33) -> Stream type 04 (  4) 13818-3 audio (MPEG-2)

         Conditional access: id 4ae2 (19170) PID 1fe0 (8160)
 EOF

i'll see if i can find any unencrypted channels
