stb-command is used to send commands to a set-top-box (stb) via an ieee1394 (aka firewire) interface.

A large number of commands are supported depending on the type of set top box used. The most popular commands being Power on/off and Power Status work on most set top boxes.

This program can be used in conjunction with external channel changers to perform a number of functions such as:

  • verify the set top box is powered on
  • clear the screen of the "Press any key to continue"

It can also be used in conjunction with say web services scripts to provide forms of remote control on the set top box.
