I gave up on the idea of using an Asus Pundit, it was just impossible to get hold of the right model with the required spec. Instead I found this excellent, brushed aluminium case for just £40:

I ended up building a HD capable combined frontend and backend with HDMI out and HD Audio for £140, excluding drives and cards which I salvaged from the old backend.

Working on now

  • All things MythUI
  • Replace current mythmusic playlist editor using the new table structure to it's full advantage.

My Task List:

  • Sort out settings to make setup quicker and easier. This means creating two modes, novice and expert, splitting settings in into each group. Using a locale based auto-config, settings which are defined by where you live e.g. Video format, languages, interactive TV etc should all be automatically populated simply by choosing the correct locale from a list on the first startup. Some settings might be replaced with more intelligent auto-detection and some text-entry settings replaced with pre-populated lists.
  • Improve streaming on remote frontends. Current buffering/streaming just isn't sufficient on connections which are just a little slow e.g. Patchy wireless. It's perfectly possible to get perfect streamed playback on such connections using Kaffeine and the mythweb ASX stream, so the solution shouldn't be too difficult.
  • Handle the correct muting/recording of line-in from within mythtv setup to simplify framegrabber setup (Might not be possible, but if it is, then it's simple fix)
  • Allow 2 or more listings sources for one video source. (Don't add channels. Don't run grabber twice for single source)
  • Add option to liveTV "recording starting" menu to watch remainder of liveTV buffer
  • Add disk based caching of mheg stuff, images etc
  • Move filters into playback groups
  • The duplicate check method "Record New Episodes Only" either needs re-wording or making a little smarter. It doesn't work as it should like it should for users with no 'Repeat' information in their guide data.
