Overview

Mythbuntu user since 10/2009. Recording ATSC transmissions and analog (NTSC) from a cable box.

Current Box

  • Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
  • 2GB RAM
  • Hauppague HVR-1600
  • Hauppague HVR-1250
  • GeForce 9400GT Video Card (couldn't get the on-board video working reliably)
  • Samsung DVD Drive
  • MediaGear Allcards Reader
  • 2 Seagate 500GB SATA Drives
  • Zoom 3095 USB Modem (for CalleriD)
  • Mythbuntu 9.04RC, MythTV 0.21 - On one drive
  • Mythbuntu 9.04, Upgrade from 8.10, MythTV 0.22 - On 2nd Drive
  • Very cheap indoor antenna (I can see the 2 major transmitters out my front window.)
  • LIRC controls IR Blaster on HVR-1600 which controls a Motorola DCT700 Set Top Box

Last line bold because I spent an embarrassingly long time trying to get it to work. There are a number of false leads out in the ether.

Search for 'haup-ir-blaster' for the answer. Some installation steps aren't needed if you're running up to date software. A frequently cited link is here.

A/V Components

  • 42" Panasonic TV
  • Denon 2807 A/V Receiver
  • DVD
  • Archive:
    • VCR/CD/Reel to Reel/Cassette Deck
    • Thorens TD 150 Turntable (can't bear to give it away)
  • Remote Control
    • Nokia N-810
    • Running Irreco from maemo.org
    • Network control of MythTV via Telnet_socket
    • Serial link between MythTV frontend/backend and A/V Receiver for Denon Serial Protocol
    • Now, if manufacturers would just make TV sets that could be controlled via telnet, I could take the batteries out of another remote control.
