The XMLTV ID is required for mapping channels to channel listing services. See Frontend_Channel_Editor#Edit_Channels for information on how to use the XMLTV ID. If you're using Comcast (or another provider using SCTE65, also see Comcast_Users_And_scte65scan) which might prevent the need for manually editing XMLTV IDs.

Schedules Direct

For this service you can find the ID easily:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click the "Report" button next to one of your lineups. This will show you a table of all channels that you have enabled, including channel number, XMLid, call sign, and name.
  3. If this doesn't work for you, for some reason, you have another option:
    1. Click the "Edit" button next to one of your lineups. This should bring you to a page allowing you to select and un-select channels.
    2. Find the channel you are seeking and hover over its box. In most browsers a title will appear which is the callsign followed by the XMLTVID.
    3. Should that not work you can fall back to examining the source HTML:
      1. View the html source of the page (Firefox: top menu "View"->"Page Source").
      2. Search in the source for the callsign of the channel you are interested in.
      3. The channel will be contained in a table cell (<td ...), the title is the callsign followed by the XMLTVID. For example <td id="cell_1.13" title="WNED (id: 11709)">. The XMLTVID is 5 digits long, in this example the ID is 11709.

HDTVMagazine

Digital ATSC channels can be found on HDTVMagazine using the following:

  1. Go to http://www.hdtvmagazine.com
  2. Enter the call letters of your station in the search box.
  3. Hit enter to submit the search
  4. View the search results and scan to the last line, marked in green.
  5. The results will include a URL like this: hdtvmagazine.com/programming/guide-station.php?id=20292
  6. The ID is the last 5 digits.

Zap2It.com

Zap2it is a public interface to the Tribune Media Services information which backs up SchedulesDirect.

Go to http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do

Just under the heading line 'TV Listings' is a line which has something like 'National Grid East' then 'Change My Location'. Click on that, enter your zipcode, press 'Go' then select the Source or Provider you intend to use, such as 'Local Broadcast'. The Guide Grid will come up, showing the available stations for your zip.

You need the 'Status Line' enabled in your browser for this to work.

Hover your mouse pointer over a station call-sign in the leftmost column and a URL for the station will be shown in the 'Status Line'.

This URL will have the form: http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCSGrid.do?stnNum=31507&channel=2.1 The 'num=31507' section is the xmltvid for the channel, in this case, channel 2.1.

You can register (and later, login) if you want your computer to remember your location and provider.
