I have begun adding more information that I have come across in my own installation. I would have gotten through things much quicker if this was all in one location, however I'm not sure if I'm going beyond the original scope of this document. I would have no problem if my additions were cut/pasted into their own wiki pages, added to the "HOWTO" section. It might be useful to have, for instance, a "LiRC Install on Debian Etch"-specific HOWTO. Perhaps, after I get all the information down that I wish to contribute, I will do just that.

ivtv-utils question

Thanks for starting this HowTo... I've a question on ivtv-utils...

I'm having problems getting ivtv-utils installed on my system and noticed that it's currently marked as "unstable". none of my entries in /etc/apt/sources.list reference "unstable" so how did you get ivtv-utils etc to install on your system? Or is there a step missing?

At the moment this question was posted indeed no correct ivtv package was in etch (it was 'testing' at that moment). Now Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 has been officially released you should be able to install it without any problem! --Michel 20:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

LIRC

I moved this to the Talk page for Linux-on-Debian-etch, since it's more relevant there.

Etch (is not Lenny nor Sid)

As this page talks about Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 (etch) I think additional information for other Debian versions does not need to be presented at this page. I.m.h.o. the average user 'just wants to install a MythTV box on Debian GNU/Linux', the stable version. So don't bother those people with an overkill of information.

Therefor, I removed the following part:

<snip> For lenny (testing) alpha, amd64, hppa, i386, ia64, powerpc and sparc packages:

 deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org lenny main

or

 deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main

For sid (unstable) alpha, amd64, hppa, i386, ia64, powerpc and sparc packages:

 deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid main

For experimental amd64, i386 and sparc packages (Empty for now):

 deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org experimental main

</snip>

I think if people want to play with testing (lenny) or unstable (sid) Debian installations they are far enough to adapt their sources.list --Michel 19:56, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I completely forgot that it was an Etch-specific document. :-P You can remove this entire Discussion section if you want ... it was a ridiculous addition on my part and didn't require any justification in its removal (thanks, though). --Dgymnycee 16:55, 26 April 2007 (EDT? EST? Both?)
