Aluratek AVH100F is reasonable solution to connect a VGA (analog D-sub 15) output port to an HDTV monitor using HDMI. This is a little box that takes a VGA signal along with the audio signal and multiplexes both to an HDMI output.

It works pretty well. On Fedora 12 with an Intel X4500 the TV was auto-detected without needing an xorg.conf - i.e. plug-and-plug. An older HTPC running MythBuntu 9.10 does seem to require an xorg.conf with an appropriate mode line. (Tested at 1080p on a Mitsubishi WD60C9.)
