Here is a working .asoundrc for the sound hardware embedded in the Via CN400 "south bridge" as found, for example, on the Via EPIA SP boards (used on the my myth box). See the Configuring Digital Sound HOWTO for some details of what this all means.
Module setup
First, I use this line in /etc/modules (on Debian):
snd-via82xx dxs_support=3
MythTV setup
Second, I use the following value for the sound output in both Myth and MythMusic:
ALSA:default
(the case matters).

Third, here is the .asoundrc.
