P5Q works fine with Kubuntu / MythBuntu / Ubuntu 8.10 Hardy Heron. The P5Q comes in a few different variants I have just tested the P5Q variant, not the P5Q-Deluxe or any other variant, it has also been successfully used with LinuxMCE 710 using the drivers indicated below by completing the full installation and then adding the drivers to a completed LinuxMCE installation.

The majority of components work out of the box; with the exceptions Ethernet requires you to install drivers which can be located in the driver package (see instructions below) Software RAID using MDADM has been used successfully but not using the motherboard based RAID booting off the PATA drive has been successful but booting off the SATA ports has not been tested Linux seems to be sensitive to the SATA BIOS settings, the options in the 1004 version of the BIOS are Disabled, AHCI, RAID, IDE Compatible

It has been tested with an Intel Q6600 Quad core processor, PCIe 16x Nvidia GeForce 8500 512Mb card and a Hauppauge Nova-T 500 Dual DVB tuner card

To install the LAN Driver Download the linux driver from: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...model=P5KPL-CM; click drivers to find it in the list.

un zip, the package. un-rar (uncompress) the contents of 'l1e-l2e-linux-v1.0.0.4.rar' to <HOME_DIR>/LinuxDrivers/L1e_Lan/l1e-l2e-linux-v1.0.0.4

Open a terminal and cd into <HOME_DIR>/LinuxDrivers/L1e_Lan/l1e-l2e-linux-v1.0.0.4/src Enter 'sudo make' then 'sudo make install' This puts a driver in /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/drivers/net/atl1e/at1le.ko run: 'sudo insmod ./atl1e.ko'l1e-l2e-linux-v1.0.0.4.t




To manually install the Audio drivers

Search for ALSA and select the following for install / upgrade


alsa-base alsa-oss alsa-firmware-loaders also-tools alsa-utils alsaplayer-alsa alsaplayer-common alsaplayer-gtk analog libasound2 libasound2-plugins libesd-alsa0 - upgrade libsdl1.2debian-alsa linux-sound-base


then:

goto www.realtek.com.tw select downloads on the left hand side sleect computer peripheral ics->pc audio codecs->High Definition Audio Codecs check the box and click ok once enabled. find the linux download for Linux driver (2.4 or 2.6) download the file; extract it. open the directory that you extracted the files to in a console window. run 'sudo sh install /..' this last command takes quite a few minutes to run (all on it's own; no interaction required and streams of text will go through the console window)

when, reboot and you're finished.
