On this page you'll find overview of possibilities the MythTV community uses to communicate to each other.

MythTV is a opensource project, its build and maintained by the community. So we rely on each other to be helpful and document problems and their solutions. For MythTV to be able to grow and support a large number of users, it is very important that we are clear, concise, and respectful of others and their time.

Its good to know that our users sections are also used for technical questions, installation problems, etc. The developer sections are only for coding specific topics. Besides that the user sections are in general the place to start when having questions our problems. Most topics are taken care of there and quit a few of the users are in fact developers

About asking questions

There are several places you can go to ask questions. Each has advantages and disadvantages, both for you and for other people. Before asking questions your should read the page about "How to ask questions".

About using the mailinglist

The mailinglist is the prevered way to communicate to each other so users and developers can search the archives for information, very much like a forum.

About using using IRC

Advantage: It's faster. If there's someone around who knows what is causing your problem, you might be able to get an answer instantly.

Disadvantage: There may *not* be someone around who knows were your problem is coming from. If you *do* get an answer, there's no record of it -- as there would be if you'd asked on a mailing list -- so others can't benefit from it.

Best For: Lightweight questions, especially those about installation and compiling.

Not So Much: Long involved questions that are dependent on your installation and its parameters.

Ofcourse we have other facilities to support each other which you'll find here.

User mailinglist

For general discussions about using MythTV, problems, etc., you should subscribe to the mythtv-users mailing list. This is where general discussions goes on. You can also use the searchable archives to find out what's been going on lately.
