The electronic program guide (EPG), allows you to see what is currently being shown on the channels you receive. The source of the EPG is country specific.

XMLTV is a set of utilities to manage your TV viewing. They work with TV listings stored in the XMLTV format, which is based on XML

In the Netherlands there is currently one system left for analog broadcast receiving. This is by means of using the cable, which is provided by the cable provider in the region where one is living. Rotterdam for example has Casema, and near my place which is called Brielle we have UPC as provider. The old fashioned analog antenna system is no longer available.

Where any normal TV in the Netherlands is capable of being attached to a cable (on the antenna input) you need a TV card in your mythtv box which is capable of understanding cable signals. Examples of this type of TV cards are the Bttv based cards (such as Hauppauge WinTV series) and the currently very populair PVR series, also built by Hauppauge. These cards are based on the IVTV driver, which is available from the IvTV Project.

The primary goal of the IvTV Project is to create a kernel driver for the iTVC15 family of MPEG codecs. The iTVC15 family includes the iTVC15 (CX24315) and iTVC16 (CX24316). These chips are commonly found on Hauppauge's WinTV PVR 150/250/350/500 models TV capture cards. More supported cards can be found at their wiki. Much of the earlier work on these drivers was done by Chris Kennedy, and current development is being done mostly by Hans Verkiul.

  • DVB-S - Satellite (Canal Digitaal)
  • DVB-T - Terrestial (like Digitenne from KPN over the air)

best source so far:

Encryptie De kabelaars bieden digitale TV niet voor niks aan, daarom wordt het DVB-C signaal versleuteld met een regiogebonden Irdeto 2 encryptie (UPC vormt met Nagravision 2 een uitzondering;

File:Casema.png Did you know that Casema has about 12,500 miles of cable in the ground? And that these cables are used to provide over 1.4 million households with radio, (digital) TV, internet and telephony? Thanks to our modern cable system, we have become a leading supplier of network services and entertainment.

Grabber for guide data

Package.png tv_grab_nl_py is a XMLTV compatibele grabber, written in Python that captures TV-guide info from

~/.xmltv/tv_grab_nl_py.conf can be edited to delete some of the channels that you don't need.

Detailed instructions on howto install the tvgids grabber can be found here

The MythFILLEPG bash script a little bash script that prevents mythfilldatabase from grabbing lots of overlapping days

Package.png This seems to be an alternative for tv_grab_nl_py but the info this page seems pretty old. never tried this myself

kwik: I do use this grabber and it is very good! It provides detailed information, including genre info. Furthermore it is well maintained. Here's some important info from the site: Because the standard tv_grab_nl script can be quite a strain on the website and takes about an hour to get 1 day of detailed information. I wrote a script to get that info once a night, and make the resulting xml available.

Not complete, please add/change/delete/ replace your information'

More information can be found here: It provides genre information, although not for every channel. Like the tv_grab_nl_gert script, it downloads xml information grabbed by wolf. This greatly recudes strain on In general it provides less program info than tv_grab_nl_gert. Not complete, please add/change/delete/replace your information

Channel logos

A more-or-less complete set of logos for Dutch TV channels can be found here: They are provided as square images, which makes them suitable for use with MythTV. To use these logos, download the logos to your mythtv backend box (in a seperate directory of course!), start mythtv-setup and go to the channel editor. Fill in the filenames for the channels you have a logo for.

I have found another collection of logos, but most of them are not really usable, because they are not square. To help people who mis a logo in the collection mentioned above I will provide the link: !! Please note: if you want to use any logo, make sure they are square. Otherwise use the Gimp, and fix them yourself. --Michel 21:20, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

There is another page on this Wiki which handles channel logos: Channel icons.

That page has a (general) link to the 'LyngSat Logo' site where the logos are available for many countries. From that site the following links point to the Dutch logos:

Lyngsat Logo - Netherlands (Television)

Lyngsat Logo - Netherlands (Radio)

For me it was the solution to get the missing logos added to my MythTV box --Michel 19:34, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
