So mytharchive does not need project X? This is cool. I like the idea of mythBurn, but hated trying to setup the dependencies. It looks like you have gone a long way to fix this up, well done.

Is there any talk of a Mythweb interface for creating a DVD? I would much prefer a web-style interface to a PVR style interface whenever possible, and I believe there was such an interface for MythBurn. --AusIV 10:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

It only affects archiving to the raw format and only then when saving to a directory. SVN revision 11192 
or later from the fixes branch and trunk are OK. 

My question is, does that mean that it is or is not still broken in mythtv-0.20.2-165.fc6, since I am using the package manager, I have no idea what branch of the svn repos I have.

Proprietary format?

In the introductory discussion on MythArchive, it claims you can back up your data to a "proprietary" format that will store all of the meta data about the show. It seems to me that proprietary is a harsh word, given that the format is likely open, just non-standard. I would suggest coming up with a better word.

DVB subtitles

The DVD burning feature is really useless for me and many others in certain countries unless DVB subtitles are burned to the disk. From various postings I've understood it's no simple task, but there seems to be at least one individual who is interested in working on this. --akaihola 18:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Advice given for speeding up DVD production

The advice on this page is nice as far as compliant DVDs are concerned, but realistically most set-top players can handle DVDs whose content is 480x480. A more real-world problem is that the default 16:9 menu ratio is incompatible with the PNG overlays used in the menu structures on at least one model of set-top DVD player (Koss), rendering the overlays at a different aspect ratio than the underlying screens.

Realistically either Myth should default to PAL/NTSC DVD resolution for recordings or Mytharchive should be less orthodox about transcoding.

IMO, this section of the wiki should offer the user instructions on disabling reencoding (so as to deal with existing recordings) instead of chiding the user for not encoding to another resolution. I'd add it myself if I thought it wouldn't be reverted. --User:Orrinbloquy 15:09, 22 March 2007

note: the DVD spec should be adhered to as much as possible to maintain compatability with DVD playback equipment. Anecdotal evidence of non-standard resolutions working on home-made DVDs is all well & good but if they're not standards-compliant they may not work correctly on other players.

Suggestions for improvement

1. Enable MythArchive to be run from remote frontends. Many of us have the backend off in never never land (or at least in the basement) and our frontends are in the living room. (a much more convenient location to put in black DVD media)

2. Export video in normal data format, rather than converting to a DVD format. Think of DVD's as CD's. People don't run around with CD's anymore. Instead the format of choice is MP3. As storage capacity grows exponentially, we will want the same portability from our video file. eg:I've transfered cartoons to my cell phone to keeping the kids quiet while waiting in line at the registry. Sure this can be done today using other tools like nuvexport or avidemux2, but mytharchive gui is much easier. I've also had a few DVD's with bad sectors With a data format it's easier to add partity to the DVD, just in case.

FFW/REW in archived show?

I'm using KnoppMyth R5F1 and can successfully export a recorded show to "native archive" (non-iso). The subtitles work, but it's not possible to fast forward or rewind the usual way. Pause works. Suggestions?
