When using separate frontend and backend machines if you are experiencing lots of "Prebuffering pause" events in your frontend playback of HD content check to see if your frontend has the video files accessible through NFS. As of about myth-0.18 the playback engine will attempt to use NFS to access mpg files before requesting a stream delivery. If your NFS system has any hiccups in delivering the bytes from the mpg file then you will get a pause in video playback and a "Prebuffering pause" event in the logs.
