About Me

I'm always of the belief that linux is the best tool to build the perfect IT solution, whether it is full scale or some small device. The user community that exists that willingly shares their experiences make it possible for everyone else to enjoy it as well.

After playing with Windows MCE and wishing I could do this and that... I finally got MythTV up and running on various computers lying around the house.

There have been some upgrades over time though which you'll see below.

My current aim is to streamline the frontend into a 'appliance like' experience so the family don't know the difference :)

I'm currently running the following configuration using Mythtv.

MythTV Setup

Dedicated Backend

Functions of the backend include NAS fileserver, MythTV Backend, Web Server, MisterHouse Home Automation. Hardware/OS includes the following ...

  • Debian Etch & MythTV
  • P4 2.8 GHz
  • 512 MB RAM
  • ASUS P4C-800E Deluxe
  • ATI 9700 PRO AIW Video Card
  • DViCO_FusionHDTV_DVB-T_Dual_Digital (Dual HD Tuner)
  • AVerMedia_DVB-T_771 (Single SD Tuner)
  • Silverstone LC17 Case chosen for its 6 x 3.5" Drive Bays and 2 x 5.25" Drive Bays
  • 2 x 320GB SATA WD Drives
  • 2 x 200GB PATA WD Drives
  • 1 x 100GB PATA WD Drive

Dedicated Frontend #1

Hardware/OS includes the following ...

  • Debian Etch & MythTV and numerous packages to make it work!
  • AMD64 3200+
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Asus_A8N-VM_CSM
  • Onboard Video & Sound used with SVideo TV-Out Connector (DVI available)
  • Silverstone LC11m Case
  • Standard DVD Drive (need to update to Combo Burner to utilise mytharchive!)
  • Gigabyte I-RAM w/ 2GB RAM (Not in use as Linux can't recognise it currently!, but worked great as Windows XP MCE drive!)

The following item was bought because the I-RAM isn't currently supported under Linux.

Dedicated Frontend #2

Comes when the 2nd TV arrives ..!
