Freedb

As of 2020, MythMusic is no longer looking up metadata for CD Imports. You may use desktop tools and then scan the resulting files or manually enter the metadata. Here is some history and possible solutions.

FreeDB was an internet database hosted at http://www.freedb.org that provided metadata for CD music. Prior to 2020 it was used by MythTV when ripping music to obtain Album and artist information about your CD. An alternative was to use the FreeDB Gateway to the MusicBrainz] database.

Per gnudb.org freedb was born in 2006 and went down in 2020. At that time the hosting site took over on gnudb.org. As of late 2023, it lists 4.7 million albums. In theory, this might still work since it should be the original compatible format.

Per an announcement the gateway to MusicBrainz went down in 2019. Using MusicBrainz natively would be a much bigger effort. Some libraries exist that might make this possible.

In the meantime you might want to use desktop rip and tag software. If you rip in MythTV, make sure you enter at least Artist and Album to create a unique directory for the track files. These can then later be tagged by other tools and scanned by MythMusic.
