System 0 Upgrade to Ubuntu 18.10
Network Ethernet
one wired connection is to the internet. the other wired connection is to my HdHomeRun device.

I want to make sure that hdhomerun_config discover
will find my HdHomeRun device!
I probably need to do something similar to what I did at User:Trogod/System0Upgrade14042
30-jan-2019
I followed instructions at https://askubuntu.com/questions/22835/how-to-network-two-ubuntu-computers-using-ethernet-without-a-router
menu > Settings > Network Connections > Wired connection 2 > IPV4 Settings
clicked "Add" and entered 10.0.0.1 as address and 255.255.255.0 as netmask and left gateway empty. I saw a notification on my screen that Wired connection 2 was connected.
enp3s0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet 10.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.0.0.255 inet6 fe80::3e34:6981:551e:8e36 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x20<link> ether 10:fe:ed:07:bb:6c txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet) RX packets 2736 bytes 935712 (935.7 KB) RX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 frame 0 TX packets 33324 bytes 5616517 (5.6 MB) TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 collisions 0 ~/hdhomerun/libhdhomerun$ hdhomerun_config discover no devices found ~/hdhomerun/libhdhomerun$ ./hdhomerun_config discover no devices found
not quite there, yet.
I temporarily gave up on this and simply connected the HD HomeRun directly to my router. Now...
$ hdhomerun_config discover hdhomerun device 10172423 found at 10.83.111.156
so, that's success for now

video driver
I went to "Software & Updates" from the Ubuntu menu. Under "Additional Drivers" I chose "NVIDIA binary driver - version 340.107 from nvidia-340 (proprietary, tested)" and clicked "Apply Changes" and rebooted
