Considerations

A potential issue with the Volar is that the aerial connection is a tiny coax connector instead of full size 75ohm PAL connector. It feels a bit flimsy.

Kernel Driver

This card is supported in the Linux kernel by the dvb-usb driver.

On Fedora 7 and Ubuntu 7.10 you might need to download the firmware and drop it into /lib/firmware/.

I recommend that you use the dvb-usb-dib0700-03-pre1.fw firmware.

Download the latest firmware (dvb-usb-dib0700-03-pre1.fw) from

$ wget http://www.wi-bw.tfh-wildau.de/~pboettch/home/linux-dvb-firmware/dvb-usb-dib0700-03-pre1.fw

copy all the contents of firmware into /lib/firmware

$ sudo cp dvb-usb-dib0700-03-pre1.fw /lib/firmware/dvb-usb-dib0700-01.fw

If you do not complete this step prior to plugging the device in, remember to unplug and then re-insert the device so that the firmware can be loaded.

Testing with Kaffeine

Kaffeine allows you to scan for channels and watch TV, so this is a good program to test all the abilities of your card.

Under ubuntu 710 I installed 'kaffeine' and 'libxine1-plugins' from the package manager

Now start Kaffeine In DVB Device setup change source to your area, EG: I selected: 'au-Melbourne' Go to DVB -> Channels Click 'Start Scan' It should lock onto channels when it finds some.
